Confidence starts early
For many children, simply stepping onto the mat without Mom or Dad is a huge victory.
Small victories become confidence.
Confidence becomes independence.
Independence becomes belief in themselves.
Every class is filled with opportunities for children to discover what they are capable of.
Why this window matters
The habits children build now often become the foundation for future success.

Building Independence
Independence for preschoolers does not appear on a single day. It is built through small, repeated experiences where a child tries something on their own and discovers they can. For many 3 and 4 year olds, simply walking onto the mat without Mom or Dad is the first major act of independence in their life. That single step is bigger than it looks — and it sets the tone for everything that follows.
Tiny Tigers is built around those small acts. A child learns to find their spot, line up their feet, listen to the instructor, and respond on their own. Each of those moments is age-appropriate responsibility, scaled to a young child's world. Over time, those tiny choices add up to a child who believes, I can do things on my own.
Confidence for 3 year olds and confidence for 4 year olds is rarely built by being told they are great. It is built by being given safe, structured chances to try, recover, and try again. Class becomes a place where children stop looking to a parent for every answer and start trusting themselves — which is exactly the foundation parents are hoping for at this age.

Listening And Following Directions
Listening skills for children are one of the most requested outcomes parents bring to a Tiny Tigers program. At ages 3 and 4, attention is still being shaped, and children need to practice listening in a way that feels active, not passive. Sitting still and being told to focus rarely works. Movement, eye contact, and immediate feedback do.
In class, children practice following directions activities every few minutes — stand here, listen first, then move, freeze, look at me, try again. The repetition is the point. Each cycle strengthens the child's ability to hear an instruction, hold it in mind, and act on it. That habit transfers directly to home and preschool.
Preschool focus development is built from the same building blocks: hearing the first time, responding without prompting, and staying with a task long enough to finish. Tiny Tigers class trains those exact skills in a way young children actually enjoy — which is why parents often notice the change at home before they notice it in class.

Preschool And Kindergarten Readiness
Preschool readiness and kindergarten readiness are about much more than letters and numbers. The children who thrive in early classrooms are the ones who can sit and listen, raise their hand, take turns, transition between activities, and participate when asked. Those are performance habits — and they are exactly what Tiny Tigers practices in every class.
School readiness activities work best when they look like play. A child does not need a worksheet to learn how to wait their turn. They need a chance to actually wait, with a coach who notices and encourages them. Class is full of those moments: standing in a spot, watching a friend take a turn, responding when called, and recovering after a small mistake.
When a 3 or 4 year old has practiced these habits dozens of times in a warm, structured environment, walking into a preschool or kindergarten classroom feels familiar instead of overwhelming. That is the quiet, behind-the-scenes gift of Tiny Tigers — children are practicing the exact skills they will use every day in school.

Social Skills And Friendship Development
Social skills for kids start forming earlier than many parents realize. At ages 3 and 4, children are noticing peers, sharing space, and learning what it feels like to belong to a group. Friendship development at this age is less about deep conversation and more about parallel effort — moving together, cheering together, and learning to share moments of success.
Tiny Tigers is designed around side-by-side learning. Children stand near each other, high-five after a drill, and practice taking turns without losing patience. Those small interactions are the early bricks of making friends. Over time, a child who used to hide behind a parent might walk into class and wave at a classmate. That is real social growth.
For shy or quiet children, the structure of class is especially powerful. They do not have to invent a way to connect. The activity gives them a shared experience, and the encouragement of an instructor gives them permission to try. Many parents notice their child becoming more willing to greet people, join groups, and speak up in unfamiliar places after just a few months.

Physical Development And Coordination
Coordination activities for children at ages 3 and 4 are about much more than getting them moving. This is a foundational window for balance, body awareness, and movement patterns that will support everything from sports to handwriting later on. The brain and body are wiring up quickly — and structured movement accelerates that process in ways unstructured play often cannot.
Balance activities for preschoolers are built into Tiny Tigers class through games, drills, and obstacle-style sequences. Children practice standing on one foot, freezing in a strong stance, hopping, ducking, and shifting weight under control. Each repetition strengthens muscle awareness and gives the brain a clearer map of the body.
Movement development at this age also builds confidence. A child who learns they can balance, jump, kick, and recover often starts to carry themselves differently outside of class. They run with more control, climb with more confidence, and engage in physical play with a stronger sense of what their body can do.

Confidence Through Small Wins
Confidence building activities work best when they are built around real, earned achievement. A child does not become confident because someone tells them they are great. They become confident because they try something, struggle, improve, and see the change in themselves. That is exactly how Tiny Tigers class is structured.
Confidence development at this age happens in tiny moments — a louder voice, a stronger stance, a faster response, a brave first try. Instructors notice and name those moments out loud, so children begin to understand what effort feels like and what it produces. That feedback loop is the heart of martial arts confidence training.
Over weeks and months, those small wins stack into identity. A child stops saying I can't and starts saying let me try. They walk taller. They speak up faster. They recover from mistakes without falling apart. That is what real, lasting confidence looks like — and it is one of the most meaningful outcomes parents see at this age.

We cannot say enough amazing things about Mastery Martial Arts in East Greenwich and Mr. Pezillo. He has been absolutely incredible for our son and exactly what we needed for him. Our son started karate at just 3 years old. At the time, he lacked confidence, and struggled with his coordination skills. During his very first month of karate, he was so nervous that he literally hid under the chairs during class. Fast forward almost two years later, and now he attends karate three times a week and absolutely loves it. He has become part of the Mastery community, made wonderful friends, looks up to the older kids, and constantly talks about the day he will earn his black belt. The growth we have seen in him has been incredible. Karate has taught him discipline, confidence, listening skills, respect, and how to follow directions — and those lessons have carried into every aspect of his life. Anytime he feels nervous about trying something new, we use the "Yes I Can" mantra from karate, and it truly helps him push through. Mr. Pezillo has always encouraged our son, celebrated his progress, and made him feel proud of himself every step of the way. We even had his birthday party there, and he was so excited to share karate with his friends and family. I would give this place 100 stars if I could. Also a huge shoutout to Ms. Cotagis and all of the Legacy members who help make the classes so welcoming, supportive, and inspiring for the younger kids. We are so grateful to be part of this community!

Our experience here has been great. Not exaggerating in that my 3 year old was influenced enough to make the bed to earn a stripe. All the instructors/management are extremely professional, kind, and caring. They have known my child's name and have engaged him seamlessly since day 1 - actually from the moment I emailed! Definitely worth it and brings purpose.

Our kids have been coming here for the past 3 years, and we love it. Our youngest has come very far with his listening skills and discipline. This is hands down the best activity our kids have done. We love Mastery!

Mastery is an amazing organization, and I can't recommend them enough! My daughter started very shy and scared, after working with their amazing teachers, Ms. Lemoi and Mr. Parks (who are both so warm, kind, and patient) she speaks clearly and confidently, she has great self esteem and has told me she has a "growth mindset". And these are skills that are so fundamental to instill in these young kids. Mastery is the best!

Mastery has been one of the best decisions for our family. My oldest has been taking classes almost 4 years. In that time, I have seen my son go from nervous to speak up, to proudly leading a team during class. The life cycles incorporated in each class bring home the way we teach and expect our sons to emulate in life. Not to mention the physical skills enhanced by the classes, including balance and strength. Mr. Pezzillo, Ms.Cotagis, and the entire team put their heart and soul into every class. The attention, care and tough love they show these kids will follow them through life. My youngest son's first class was in his 3rd birthday and he was so proud to be on the mat with his brother.

Many parents begin noticing these changes long before the next belt promotion.
The first 30 days
The first changes often happen at home.
Following directions becomes easier at home because listening is practiced every class through movement, repetition, and clear cues.
Children begin responding the first time, not the fifth, because class trains the habit of acting on what they hear.
Small, age-appropriate responsibilities in class help children try things on their own with growing self-belief.
Small wins compound quickly. Parents notice their child speaking up, trying new things, and standing a little taller.
Children become more willing to raise their hand, join in, and stay engaged instead of hanging back.
Class becomes one of the highlights of the week. Children start asking when their next class is — without being convinced.
