Why East Greenwich Families Choose Mastery

More Than Martial Arts. A Better Version Of Your Child.

East Greenwich parents don't bring their kids here for trophies. They bring them here for who their child becomes along the way.

Confidence That Holds Up Under Pressure

Confidence isn't a personality trait — it's a skill. We help East Greenwich kids develop the kind of self-belief that holds up at school, on the bus, and on the playground.

Focus That Transfers To The Classroom

Parents tell us teachers notice the change first. Kids start listening better, finishing what they start, and staying with hard problems longer.

Discipline Without Being Harsh

Real discipline isn't yelling — it's clear expectations, real progress, and earning each belt. Children learn it because they live it twice a week.

Leadership Built One Class At A Time

From holding the door for a younger student to demonstrating in front of the class, leadership grows from small, repeated moments. East Greenwich parents see it at home.

Resilience For Real Life

Kids learn to fall, get back up, and try again — calmly. That's resilience. And it's the most useful thing we'll ever teach them.

Life Skills For Long After Class

Respect, eye contact, a firm handshake, the courage to speak up. The martial arts is the vehicle. The character is the destination.

What Parents Notice First

Small Changes At Home. Big Changes Inside.

Most East Greenwich parents tell us the dojo isn't where they see the biggest difference. It's at the dinner table. In the car. At bedtime.

They Speak Up More

More willing to use their voice — at home, at school, with adults.

They Listen Better

First request is enough. Parents notice the change in the first few weeks.

They Try Harder Things

Less avoiding. More attempting. More finishing what they start.

They Lose Better

Frustration shows up smaller. Recovery happens faster.

They Stand Taller

Eye contact. Posture. The little physical cues of self-respect.

They Help More

Around the house. With siblings. Without being asked twice.

Most Children Don't Start This Way

Confident Kids Aren't Born. They're Built.

Most kids don't walk in as the loudest or most coordinated.

Many walk in shy, hiding behind a parent.

Some don't make eye contact on the first day.

A few say they don't want to do it before the lesson even starts.

That's not a problem. That's the starting line.

The First Visit

Know Exactly What To Expect.

Your first visit isn't a class. It's a private, one-on-one introductory lesson designed for complete beginners.

You'll meet your instructor, your child will experience real success, and you'll leave with answers — not a sales pitch.

Most kids walk in nervous. Most walk out smiling.

We absolutely love Mastery Martial Arts East Greenwich! 🥋 From the moment we joined, everyone has been so kind, helpful, and encouraging. Mr Pezzillo and Ms Cotagis are incredible! They have such a gift for teaching and motivating the kids! My daughter has grown so much in her confidence, discipline, and focus since starting here. Our daughter has been attending Mastery Martial Arts in East Greenwich and we honestly could not be happier with the experience. The program is truly amazing. It is structured, motivating, and focused on building not just skills but confidence, discipline, and respect. All of the instructors are outstanding. They are patient, encouraging, and genuinely invested in the kids. You can tell they care about each student's growth both on and off the mat. The positive energy in the school is noticeable from the moment you walk in. We have seen incredible results in our daughter, including improved focus, confidence, and a real sense of accomplishment. She looks forward to every class and is always proud of what she is learning. We are so grateful to be part of the Mastery Martial Arts community and would highly recommend it to any family looking for a strong and supportive martial arts program.

Mastery has been one of the best decisions for our family. My oldest has been taking classes almost 4 years. In that time, I have seen my son go from nervous to speak up, to proudly leading a team during class. The life cycles incorporated in each class bring home the way we teach and expect our sons to emulate in life. Not to mention the physical skills enhanced by the classes, including balance and strength. Mr. Pezzillo, Ms.Cotagis, and the entire team put their heart and soul into every class. The attention, care and tough love they show these kids will follow them through life. My youngest son's first class was in his 3rd birthday and he was so proud to be on the mat with his brother.

I never drop my kids off at Mastery Martial Arts. There are too many lessons.. too much inspiration.. too much motivation to be missed! Mastery Martial Arts is not a "karate school". It's not a "business" and it's not just another activity packed into the day. It's a lifestyle. A mindset. A community. A family. It's a commitment that has given my children everything a mom could want for them - all those things that money simply can't buy. My kids have gained confidence.. belief in themselves.. concern for their peers.. motivation.. strength in their bodies, and strength in their minds.. a great sense of accomplishment.. and the most amazing group of friends and mentors. Mastery is a place where my children are not only encouraged, but also learn to encourage others. It is a place where they have been learning and continue to learn skill - getting closer to their goals of becoming black belts on a daily basis.. It is also a place where they are building themselves inside, with various activities that raise awareness and support the community. The things my children have learned and gained from Mastery are immeasurable. And I stay. I listen. Sometimes for seminars or sessions that run hours long. And I'm often asked why. I could drop them off just as well. But .. I don't want to miss it. I don't want to miss them. The kids. Their eyes wide with excitement or their smiles proud with accomplishment. And I don't want to miss the lessons. Because the Instructors and Directors at Mastery Martial Arts are truly inspirational. Thank you Mastery, and all the amazing people that encompass the very ideology of it. You have all improved the lives of so many people.. and I, for one, am inexplicably grateful.

Our kids have been coming here for the past 3 years, and we love it. Our youngest has come very far with his listening skills and discipline. This is hands down the best activity our kids have done. We love Mastery!

We have been bringing our 7 year old here for about a year and the program has been fantastic for him. They teach a lot more than just karate - life skills like focusing, listening, self esteem, being helpful around the house, the importance of practice, and trying new things. It's been incredibly beneficial for our sons confidence. Our daughter just became old enough to join and we signed her up immediately. They are ridiculously good with kids here and I would recommend anyone with interested kids to try the program out. I wish my son listened as well to me as he does to Mr. Pezzillo. :)

We cannot say enough amazing things about Mastery Martial Arts in East Greenwich and Mr. Pezillo. He has been absolutely incredible for our son and exactly what we needed for him. Our son started karate at just 3 years old. At the time, he lacked confidence, and struggled with his coordination skills. During his very first month of karate, he was so nervous that he literally hid under the chairs during class. Fast forward almost two years later, and now he attends karate three times a week and absolutely loves it. He has become part of the Mastery community, made wonderful friends, looks up to the older kids, and constantly talks about the day he will earn his black belt. The growth we have seen in him has been incredible. Karate has taught him discipline, confidence, listening skills, respect, and how to follow directions — and those lessons have carried into every aspect of his life. Anytime he feels nervous about trying something new, we use the "Yes I Can" mantra from karate, and it truly helps him push through. Mr. Pezillo has always encouraged our son, celebrated his progress, and made him feel proud of himself every step of the way. We even had his birthday party there, and he was so excited to share karate with his friends and family. I would give this place 100 stars if I could. Also a huge shoutout to Ms. Cotagis and all of the Legacy members who help make the classes so welcoming, supportive, and inspiring for the younger kids. We are so grateful to be part of this community!
