I underestimated how many benefits my 3 children were getting here at Mastery Smithfield. They are learning skills beyond exercise, beyond sharp movement. They are mastering their mind and emotions. They are learning and proving to themselves that they can in life even when the immediate seems like it doesn't match with the hope-pushing through with practice and perseverance that begins to change to a “You see-you Could!” They are gaining self confidence, self motivation, leadership skills, self awareness, public speaking skills, self discipline and self regulation. It’s priceless to have them in an environment where they have leaders like Miss Sjosted and Mr West to look up to that model this behavior and see in them what they can’t see in themselves! Mr West has the right combination of character, discipline, and fun to keep them engaged while getting more out of them. It has been the best decision to put my three kids here oldest the girl then two boys, 15, 13, and 10 and they bond over this and I bonded with other parents in the process. They gain like minded friends who have the same expectations and goals. If you have children this is where they need to be. Here their body is engaged and challenged but so is there mindset about themselves and others. Again, priceless.

Mastery is teaching our daughter to be a leader, building her confidence, helping her anxiety, teaching her new ways of thinking, giving her a better ability to navigate her emotions and responses to stress. Constant positive affirmation while still teaching accountability. The karate skills she’s learned are fantastic, but the other pieces of what they teach are equally impactful. Signing our daughter up for Mastery, and then moving her up into Legacy Program, were two of the best parenting decisions we’ve ever made. Michaela attended 20 hours of legacy training during February vacation and she was like a different person when I would pick her up. She actually told me after the first class that she was proud of herself for attending instead of vegging out at home. She loved training alongside the staff, she was really inspired. At the end of the week she tested for her instructor level one. She loves helping the younger kids in their classes. I cannot recommend Mastery enough!! Mr West is constantly trying to learn and grow himself so that he can best serve his community and I love this part of Mastery. He tells the kids there is always something to learn and ways to grow and then he shares new ideas and ways of thinking that he’s discovered. It really enforces the growth mindset and eliminates the idea of achieving a certain goal and then coasting. Great program for all ages! Everyone has been supportive throughout the beginning stages which is much appreciated especially as my daughter had a difficult time during the first couple of classes. The instructors are very kind, genuine, and want your child to succeed every time, everyday in and out of the dojo. High fives all around to this dedicated team! Praying for the great progress my daughter has shown with Mastery.

We joined the Mastery Smithfield team around September 2025. Our 5 y.o has soared from this program. His confidence and self-esteem has tripled. He doesn’t shy away and is more proactive in helping others. He really applies the black belt mindset to everything he does within and outside of the dojo. As for the instructors and legacy team, they put everything they have into every class. They will not only learn your child’s name the first time they meet but they will hand in hand help them succeed, grow, and make sure they get everything they can out of class. They are amazing humans that your child can look up to. We only have the very best to say and are excited for the future

This school of martial arts is absolutely amazing. Mr. West and the entire Mastery team understands human mental health and development better than anything I’ve ever encountered as a professional psychotherapist. The program powerfully fuses all parts of the human experience—verbal, emotional, mental, and physical—in an effective synergy. Of all the activities I drive my grandchildren to, Mastery Martial Arts is by far our favorite. Mr. West is our lead instructor; I would call him magical. He has an amazing ability to teach and motivate kids on all levels. I have a grandchild who is neurodivergent and requires "extra understanding". I have been bringing him to Mr. West for weekly private classes and he has made amazing progress. This past month he actually made it into the group class!!! So proud! That represents so much growth and support. All instructors here are outstanding and all help teach important lessons like what it takes to be a leader. It has been a year since we started... best choice we made!

Staff is amazing and instructors are super understanding. Love how my son is able to grow from where he first started. They do everything as a team and I can't thank them enough for all they do.

Our experience here has been great. Not exaggerating in that my 3 year old was influenced enough to make the bed to earn a stripe. All the instructors/management are extremely professional, kind, and caring. They have known my child's name and have engaged him seamlessly since day 1 - actually from the moment I emailed! Definitely worth it and brings purpose.

Review update! Mastery is STILL the BEST! Sawyer is now on 3 years with Mastery. Since his start he has gone from being a "Little Dragon" to part of the Intermediate Leadership Team. I am so impressed every single day how he carries himself now. Before he was shy, hesitant and didn't have a whole lot of confidence. Fast forward and with the Smithfield team becoming part of our lives we have a child who is strong, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. He speaks up, he stands out and walks and speaks with confidence. We are so blessed to be part of this family and hope you consider joining them really soon. Tell them Sawyer recommended it!!!
